Pop goes the airline

A new low-cost and socially-conscious long-haul airline called Pop – standing for ‘People over Profit’ – is aiming to start operating flights from Stansted to Amritsar and Ahmedabad next winter.

The plan is to use a 378-seat all-Economy Class A330-300, initially with three services a week to each destination. It will be the only airline to fly non-stop between the UK and the two centres.

Chairman Navdip Singh Judge said: “My vision is to create an airline that serves not just the passengers travelling between the UK and the developing world but, just as importantly, delivers tangible benefits to the communities they are visiting.”

He said Pop would be an airline with a social conscience, aiming to meet the demand of a growing visiting friends and relatives (VFR) market as well as the expanding business and tourism sectors.

“Being established as a corporate social responsibility (CSR) business, Pop will enhance the lives of those in the communities it serves by donating a minimum of 51% of its profits to fund social projects in the UK and India,” the chairman added.

Passengers will be consulted when booking about which ‘community causes’ they wish the airline to support.
