LGW arrival for Air Canada

Air Canada rouge inaugurated its newest route on Friday with the arrival at Gatwick of Flight AC1924 non-stop from Toronto.

President, passenger airlines Benjamin Smith said Heathrow was already Air Canada's largest international gateway, with flights to eight Canadian cities, and the airline was pleased to expand to Gatwick in time for the summer season.

He added: “With this new route, we become the only Canadian carrier serving the two largest airports in the London metropolitan region, which further solidifies our market-leading position as the airline operating the most seats between Canada and UK.”

Flights are by Air Canada rouge Boeing 767-300ER, with Premium and Economy cabins. The service has begun with six flights a week, going to daily between 1 June and 26 September, and then with reduced frequency until 16 October.

The services are timed to optimise connectivity to and from Air Canada's global hub at Toronto-Pearson.

The Gatwick route is part of Air Canada's continuing international expansion which this summer also sees new international services between Toronto and Glasgow, Prague, Budapest, Warsaw and Seoul.

Also new are flights between Montreal and Casablanca and Lyon, and between Vancouver and Dublin and Brisbane.
