Wizz Air was in celebration mood on Thursday as it marked the 12th anniversary of its first flight with details of new aircraft capacity and routes and a new website.
The first flight, which took place from Katowice in May 2004, was the initial step in the airline’s ambition to build a low-cost operation serving central and eastern Europe.
Luton was one of four airports to welcome Wizz Air flights on the first day of operation. Ten years later, the airport is the airline’s busiest in terms of weekly departures, and celebrated with a special cake.
Wizz Air says its new website has a responsive layout adjustable to any size of display, whether smartphone, tablet or desktop, and is easier to use than any other currently in use.
The airline also announced on Thursday it will increase capacity and add new aircraft to its bases in Bucharest and Sofia. From December, the Romanian capital will have nine, while Sofia will have seven.
The extra capacity will be deployed on new services such as those between Bucharest and Tenerife and between Sofia and Nuremberg, Basel and Doncaster Sheffield, as well as increased frequencies on existing routes.
