Norwegian to Oakland

Gatwick welcomed another new route last week as Norwegian continued the expansion of its long-haul network by launching the UK’s only direct flights to Oakland-San Francisco.

The airline says it is also offering the cheapest direct flights to the US West Coast with fares from £159 one way.

Norwegian is running three flights a week on the route using a two-cabin B787 Dreamliner with Premium and Economy classes.

Oakland-San Francisco becomes Norwegian’s seventh US destination from Gatwick following the recent launch of direct flights to Boston.

Chief commercial officer Thomas Ramdahl said half a million UK passengers had now flown transatlantic with Norwegian.

“We intend to continue to provide British travellers with cheaper and easier access to more parts of the US and fly them in high-quality comfort in the newest aircraft,” he added.

Norwegian has put on sale a record 425,000 transatlantic seats from Gatwick this summer as the airline continues to introduce the new larger B787-9 Dreamliner configured for 344 passengers.

The airline’s other long-haul routes from Gatwick include New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Orlando and Fort Lauderdale. Its Caribbean service to Puerto Rico resumes on 2 November.
