Royal occasion for DXB

The 60 major international airlines operating out of the new Concourse D at Dubai International Airport (DXB) have celebrated its official opening with a royal reception given by Dubai Airports chairman Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum.

The prince met airline representatives while touring the facility, which opened for business in February, and praised carriers for their “important role in making Dubai one of the most connected cities in the world”.

DXB has invested US$1.2bn in the development of the state-of-the-art concourse and major upgrades to Terminal 1.

Sheikh Ahmed said the large and diverse customer base to which the new facility catered had dictated that the products, services, retail and food and beverage offerings were chosen after careful consideration in line with a detailed commercial strategy.

“We wanted to put the customer at the heart of that design and ensure the whole passenger layout, including retail and dining areas, was created from the traveller’s perspective,” he added.

Facilities include 21 food outlets, ‘SnoozeCubes’, where passengers can rest between flights, nine airline lounges and an 8,400 sq m walk-through duty-free complex.

The concourse has increased DXB’s annual capacity from 75m to 90m passengers in face of rapid traffic growth.    www.dubaiairports.ae
