Denver greets new airport link

A 37km (23mi) fast-rail link connecting downtown Denver and Denver International Airport has been officially opened.

Part of the Regional Transportation District (RTD) University of Colorado A Line, it can take passengers from the airport to Denver’s central Union Station in about 37min.

Passengers can also connect with the rest of the RTD rail network as well as local and regional buses at the Union Station hub.

Trains operate every 15min for most of the day and every 30min off-peak.

The airport station is directly below the new Westin Denver International Airport hotel and conference centre.

Passengers need to walk only a short distance to an escalator, elevator or stairs leading directly to the south entrance of the Jeppesen Terminal and the security checkpoints.

Montreal is also planning a new airport link with work scheduled to start next spring on a fully-automated 67km (47.6mi) light rail transit (LRT) system operating 20hr a day, seven days a week.

The company behind the scheme, CDPQ Infra, a subsidiary of Caisse de Dépôt et Placement du Québec, says the system when complete will be the third largest of its kind in the world after Dubai (80km) and Vancouver (68km), and just ahead of Singapore (65 km).  www.flydenver.com   www.cdpqinfra.com
