A special programme is being launched by Eurostar today (Monday) in a move the company says is aimed at empowering passengers, staff and local communities to “take action and engage with the environment”.
The community and environment programme will highlight corporate and social responsibility and among other things emphasise the benefits of taking the train.
“We are on a mission to encourage travellers to switch from short-haul flights to high-speed rail,” Eurostar said.
The launch comes as the company reports trading picking up in the first two months of this year after a sharp drop in passenger numbers in the aftermath of the Paris attacks in November.
The company added: “Forward bookings for the summer are looking positive.”
The high-speed rail service reported stable passenger numbers in 2015 at 10.4m, the same as in 2014.
Meanwhile, it is promoting its new fleet of e320 trains on the London – Paris route and their new on-board entertainment service and wi-fi connectivity.
The company is introducing 17 new e320 trains over the next three years alongside a programme of refurbishment of its original trains. www.eurostar.com
