Rail travellers at London’s King’s Cross station can now find inner peace and enjoy the feeling of grass beneath their feet in the newly-refurbished Virgin Trains First Class lounge.
A passenger samples the 'Zen Zone' at Virgin Trains' new King's Cross lounge
This is the last of Virgin Trains’ eight major lounges to be refurbished. The opening ceremony was performed by Jeff Halliwell, chair of Passenger Focus, with Sir Brian Souter, chairman of Stagecoach Group, and David Horne, Virgin Trains East Coast MD.
The entrance to the lounge is on the main concourse via a rather cramped lift or it can also be reached from the first-floor shopping gallery.
As well as the Zen Zone, facilities include TV news screens and wireless charging stations for mobile phones.
The lounge is available to passengers with First Class tickets valid on Virgin services, with Virgin claiming 24% of its East Coast passengers are in that category.
Some people using the facility during the opening appeared to be waiting for up to an hour for their trains: the lounge would certainly be comfortable for that kind of wait. www.virgintrains.co.uk
