Tianjin Airlines for LGW

Another Chinese carrier heads for the UK this summer when Tianjin Airlines launches twice-weekly flights to Gatwick from its home base at Tianjin via Chongqing.

The company plans to operate the Airbus A330-200, with the first flight scheduled for 25 June.

The airline was founded in 2004 as Grand China Express Air and received its operating licence from the Civil Aviation Administration of China in 2007. The first scheduled flights were launched on domestic routes before the company name was changed to Tianjin Airlines in June 2009.

The Gatwick service marks the launch of an international long-haul network to destinations in Europe, North America and southeast Asia.

It added services to Osaka and Shizuoka in Japan last May with two flights a week each from Tianjin and Xi’an. In August, it began flights to Tokyo Haneda with a four-times-weekly service using the A321

The company signed a contract last year for 20 Embraer 195s and two Embraer 190-E2s as part of a larger agreement made in 2014 for 40 aircraft.

The remaining 18 have to be approved by the Chinese authorities. The first Embraer 195 was delivered late last year and the first Embraer 190-E2 is due in 2018.  www.tianjin-air.com
