EK, MH grow closer

Codesharing was in the news this week with several carriers announcing expansions involving new routes and frequent-flyer benefits.

First in line were Emirates and Malaysia Airlines, whose new-look deal covers 15 Malaysian cities, including Langkawi, Penang, Johor and Kota Kinabalu.

Passengers can now use a single combined ticket for flights operated by the two carriers and also have the option to receive tickets and check-in baggage to their final destinations at point of origin.

Emirates passengers can fly to Kuala Lumpur in less than 16 hours on a number of flights ex-UK with one connection in Dubai.

The codeshare, which began with the Kuala Lumpur – Dubai route on 15 February, saw Malaysia Airlines placing its code and flight number on Emirates’ three daily B777 flights and daily A380 services between the two cities.

Members of Emirates’ Skywards and Malaysia Airline’s frequent-flyer programmes will be able to accrue and redeem miles on all international and domestic flights operated by both airlines.

Passengers on all routes covered by the agreement will also have generous baggage allowance in all cabins – 30kg for Economy Class, 40kg for Business Class and 50kg for First Class.  www.emirates.com   www.malaysiaairlines.com
