Irish expansion

Aer Arann, owned like Southend Airport by transport infrastructure company Stobart Plc, has announced new routes from Dublin to both Birmingham and Manchester airports.  The flights, adding to established Aer Lingus mainline frequencies, will be branded as Aer Lingus Regional and flown by brand new ATR 72-600 turboprops.

From Birmingham the three extra flights start on 1 June and add about 15 minutes to the timings.  On Manchester the gate to gate time is just five minutes longer by turbroprop as against pure jet, but with about half the number of passengers in the lounge waiting for boarding.

The addition of these services will also facilitate seamless transatlantic connectivity.  Passengers flying with Aer Lingus Regional from the UK can now connect through Dublin to complete pre-clearance and customs, ahead of their onward journey to the US.

For this summer there are additional services to Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Glasgow.  The airline also announced a new day return service to Southend, arriving at the earlier time of 08:50, with an end of day return from Southend at 19:30.  Aer Lingus Regional operates three daily return services between Dublin and Southend, which offers a direct rail link and speedy and frequent train services into London Liverpool Street, in less than 53 minutes. www.aerarann.com
