US Airways adds Heathrow

Charlotte, North Carolina is to gain non-stop air services from Heathrow with the introduction of a daily US Airways flight from the start of the summer season in March 2013.

US Airways currently operates flights from Gatwick to Charlotte, as well as a daily service from Heathrow to Philadelphia.  The Gatwick – Charlotte routes remains in the timetable.

US Airways’ CEO, Doug Parker, said: “This new service will augment our existing transatlantic network and provide more choices for customers in markets up and down the east coast”.

The airline will use an Airbus A330 on the new route featuring its Envoy International (business class) cabin which includes fully flat-bed seats.

The new flight will originate in Miami before travelling to US Airways’ Charlotte hub and then on to Heathrow.  US Airways said it would announce full details of its schedule and fares “at a later date”.

“Today's news would not be possible without the support of several groups, including the European Union to which we are grateful for this opportunity”, added Parker.

The landing rights became available when oneworld carriers had to give up some of their collective slots in order to win regulatory approval for a transatlantic joint venture. www.usairways.com
