FlyBe and Heathrow *

Heathrow will see a further expansion of FlyBe de Havilland Dash 8 Heathrow services this winter with the introduction of flights to George Best Belfast City Airport (BHD) and the Isle of Man (IOM) from 30 October.

The same aircraft will also be used for a new twice daily flight to Newquay Cornwall (NQY).  See BTN 29 August Flybe at Heathrow.

Belfast City is daily and the Isle of Man is week daily.

The airline already serves Amsterdam but has dropped Leeds Bradford.

Dave Pflieger, CEO of FlyBe, said: “The entire team at flybe are thrilled to announce our continued growth and an enhanced winter schedule that not only reflects the expansion of our fleet and network within Great Britain and Northern Ireland, but also into Europe.  And, we are even more proud of the fact that our new airline will be providing Isle of Man, Belfast, and other key customers with additional travel options and even more great value offerings – especially now, when they are needed most to help connect everyone to loved ones, experiences, and destinations that matter most this winter and holiday season”.

It seems to me that FlyBe is using all means possible to hold on to the slots it somehow acquired at Heathrow. How can Amsterdam and Belfast City work in any way with a Q400 v jets from major carriers and their marketing strength? It just does not make sense. As a shareholder in the original company I hear nothing. Will the slots be sold for silly money? And will I get a benefit?

Wendy Jones, Amsterdam

FlyBe at Heathrow is very strange. If one sector is delayed the knock-on effect will be serious. That’s not the way to run an airline.

Sammy Smythe, Willesden

The Isle of Man – London route has had more operators in the last decade than any. Newquay is not far behind. I wish FlyBe well.
