Dreamliner deliveries return

After a hiatus of 21 months Boeing has started making deliveries of its 787 Dreamliner series.  First customer is American Airlines.

Boeing handed the aircraft to the airline on 10 August at the airframer’s production facility in North Charleston, South Carolina.

Boeing has not delivered 787s for most of the last 21 months – since October 2020 – due to manufacturing quality issues largely involving gaps between fuselage sections being larger than specified. The manufacturer briefly resumed in 2021 before pausing again.

At the present time 1,479 Dreamliners have been ordered with 1,007 delivered and assembly now only at Charleston.  Among outstanding orders for the aircraft include one for 30 by Emirates, who described the purchase ‘for long thin routes', Air Astana with a commitment for three, and the Vietnam carrier Bamboo for 11, with three in service at this time.  Production was aimed at five per month.
