Jet2 status

An airline which started life as Chanel Express, a freight operator, at Bournemouth Airport in 1978 with a Handley Page Dart Herald is now the British number three airline in terms of scheduled passengers carried.

Jet2.com has been asked by government to join Jet Zero Council, the partnership body between industry and government to deliver decarbonisation in the aviation sector, a mark of its significant role it is playing in UK air transport.

Headquartered at Leeds Bradford airport, with more than 9,000 people employed across the UK, Jet2.com is the only major airline headquartered in the North, with ten UK bases (Belfast International, Birmingham, Bristol, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds Bradford, Manchester, Newcastle and Stansted).  In 2019 it carried 14.3m passengers.

It currently has a fleet of just over 100 aircraft and still flies the popular, but now outdated in these times, Boeing 757, to be replaced by 60 Airbus A321 neos with similar capacity.  The remaining Boeing 737-300's will be dropped at the end of the current season the airline continueing with its 78 Boeing 737-800s.

Jet2.com Plc was Dart Group Plc and rebranded September 2020.  The largely low-profile Philip Meeson founded Dart in 1983 and still serves as Group Chief Executive.
