Change of mind for Ryanair

In a change of mind Ryanair has confirmed its return to Belfast International Airport at Aldergrove with the reopening of its base from summer 2023.

It was left to Jason McGuinness, Commercial Director of the airline, to add his name to the press release, not the volatile Michael O’Leary who was less than complimentary last year in an attack on Air Passenger Duty (APD) and pulled the Dublin-based airline’s operations at the airport.  McGuinness said: “We are delighted to have reached a long-term agreement with Belfast International’s management, which will underpin future Ryanair growth at the airport over the coming years.

Ryanair will offer 12 routes and more than 115 weekly flights, to destinations including Alicante, Faro, Girona and Malaga. Ryanair will also launch domestic services to East Midlands, Edinburgh, Manchester and Stansted.

Dan Owens, Chief Financial Officer, Belfast International, added: “This is a significant investment, bringing job creation and positive news for our passengers and the region. It increases the number of destinations now available from the airport to over 70 domestic and international destinations, offering more choice than ever for travellers”.
