COMMENT: FARNBOROUGH – Room for improvement

A sun-drenched Farnborough. Some of us can remember wet events and canvas hospitality. Things have moved on and the whole operation is a credit to ADS Group, a worthy successor to the SBAC.

But it is not perfect.

Some time back, the buses from Farnborough Main and other stations became complimentary. A real bonus in terms of organisation. Paris copied at the alternating Le Bourget show. Previously, nobody minded paying money but it slowed down the whole operation.

Four years ago, the entrance for public transport was via the aviation museum, and it worked well. This was changed last time round with access via the Holiday Inn roundabout, joining the traffic from the west. It didn't work, resulting in major delays. More residential development near the entrance did not help.

For 2018, the organisers have stayed with this access.

At certain times, chaos. And it was hot.

Please, Paul Everitt Everitt and your team. For 2020, revert to the previous system even it means a rethink of the of the main trade entry route.

All worked very well on the Tuesday and I too thought the security at the car park worked well. Mystified why the ticket had to be printed in colour, and why photo i.d. was asked for - on the dy there didn't appear to be a need for either. Did the Spanish AV-8s really have to be hidden away from view on the far side?

Lucky you did not attend the first day of the RIAT at Fairford (Also in hot weather)- It took two and a half hours for the pre-booked bus to get from Swindon Station into RAF Fairford! Thereby missing the opening displays by the BBMF and the Red Arrows!

I welcomed the security check at the car park as it made the entrance on the bus so much easier.
