Hands free at easyJet

A 'Hands Free' baggage service allowing passengers to check-in their hand luggage at the bag drop desk has been introduced by easyJet. The bags are tagged as priority and looked after through to the arrival airport.

The airline says the service, which costs £4 per person or £10 for a group bundle per flight, means passengers do not need to take baggage through security or carry it around the airport. The tagged items are among the first to be delivered at arrivals.

Users are given plastic bags to carry their essential items, and are free to take on board any items purchased at the airport. They are also able to board first after those with Speedy Boarding.

Introduction of the system follows a successful trial in France earlier this year, when more than  9,000 passengers used it over the course of four weeks. Ancillary revenue director Andrew Middleton said: “It was a fantastic response.

“Alongside low fares and friendly customer service, passengers tell us the airport experience is a hugely important part of their journey. We’re confident once they go ‘Hands Free’ they’ll never want to drag cabin baggage through the airport again.”
