Tony Hesketh-Gardener, England

In the mid-1980's, my wife, son and I checked in at Abaco Island in the Bahamas for a flight to Nassau. The terminal was a corrugated iron roof barn and our luggage was weighed on bathroom scales. No seats were allocated and we were the first in what became a long line of fellow passengers standing outside the barn, some of whom were holding chickens, cats and dogs. We had to run across 100 yards of gravel to board the Dart Herald as everyone was charging towards the aircraft in line abreast. We arrived first and grabbed the nearest seats. There were no overhead lockers so we had to nurse our carry on bags. When no more seats were left, people sat in the gangway while the last passengers to board were crammed up against the door. There was no air pressure and we flew the 45 minutes to Nassau at 5000 feet without any problems or complaints.
