Ethiopian launches Dublin – Los Angeles

Dublin (DUB) is now joined to Los Angeles (LAX), and also Addis Ababa (ADD).  Ethiopian Airlines has introduced a three times per week service operating a two-class Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Chief Executive Tewolde Gebremariam, spoke to BTN in Warsaw at the Star Alliance Biannual Chief Executive Board (CEB) gathering.  He flew in direct from Dublin having been on the LAX inaugural, both ways.  He said that the airline was very pleased with the initial bookings for the route, which is without competition, pointing out that Dublin had been a base for Ethiopian since March.

The airline operates through the airport as a tech stop on its weekly service to Washington and three times per week to Toronto.  Previously Rome had been used, Addis Ababa Airport at 7656ft limiting the aircraft’s performance.  There is no problem with the return services, both flights routing direct to Addis.

The airline does not offer the US pre-clearance service.  “With our sort of operation it is just not practical (over half the passengers originate in Addis),” said Mr Gebremariam.  “The process would just delay the departure.  We want to get the aircraft away as quickly as possible,” he said.   www.ethiopianairlines.com
