Aer Lingus and Ryanair – more

On Tuesday (26 May) Ryanair will announce its full year’s results at a London press conference hosted by Neil Sorahan, CFO of Ryanair, long with the airline but only holding this position since the retirement of Howard Millar at the end of last year.

Questions are bound to be raised as to the airline’s position regarding the proposed takeover by IAG of Aer Lingus (Ryanair holds 30%).

Deputy Prime Minister Joan Burton has been speaking to the Irish Independent.  "It is not just the Government which is involved in this.  There is a significant stake held by Ryanair and how they approach that will be very significant in any decision being made.  Clearly, there are ongoing issues in relation to Ryanair and the approach that they take."

The board of Aer Lingus has supported the takeover.

Ryanair, which has said little publicly about the sale, asked in March for details of IAG's plans for Aer Lingus, including possible remedies to competition concerns, before it decides whether to accept the proposed offer.

A spokesman for Ryanair said that its board will consider any offer "if and when an offer is made."  www.aerlingus.com
