Aviation Club and Declan Collier

Declan Collier, CEO of London City Airport, was the highly articulate and amusing guest of the London Aviation Club last week.  He gave a lively speech.

Asked by BTN if a Crossrail station was now being planned (the former Silvertown stop on what was old North London Line is about 150 yards away) he said that things looked promising.  He noted that increased aircraft movements had been secured and that detailed planning was with Newham Council for a major expansion including new gates and a parallel taxiway.  Approval was expected shortly.

Advance aircraft designs will bring LCY with range of America’s east coast, the CIS countries and the Gulf.  With today’s (Monday 27 October) introduction of Flybe as a key airline London City will be serving nearly 50 destinations.

Mr Collier laid much emphasis on what he called “The smart airport experience” with a 20-minute check-in, and landing to exit within 15 minutes.  200 cameras, he called them data controllers, monitor passenger movements from a central control, and can deal with problems in double quick time. Interestingly he pointed out that 70% of his “guests” used the new Egate facility at passport control.  Other airports please note. www.londoncityairport.com
