Free Virgin

Virgin Atlantic has stepped up its marketing efforts for the Johannesburg route in rather a novel way.  Passengers travelling on flights from Heathrow to O. R. Tambo International Airport can now phone home for free once they have landed.  The idea is to take the hassle out of trying to connect and find a SIM card at an unfamiliar destination.

Virgin Atlantic teamed up with Virgin Mobile South Africa to provide its 300 daily passengers landing in from Heathrow with a free Virgin Mobile SIM.  These are pre-loaded with R20 airtime, equivalent to a 20-minute international call to the UK, and 100 MBs data to get talking, texting and sharing in South Africa.

While other operators have stores inside the airport, Virgin Mobile is handing out information leaflets as passengers disembark from the flight and stationing agents near the baggage claim hall to register the phone details.

“We know how important it is to connect with your loved ones when you land in a new country, and we’re delighted to be able to offer our passengers connecting from London and the US to Johannesburg that all-important first call home, for free,” says Jason Hair, COO, Virgin Mobile in South Africa.  www.virgin-atlantic.com
