Boeing delivers its 1,500th 747

Nearly 45 years after the prototype first flew Boeing has delivered the 1,500th 747 to come off the production line.  Lufthansa has taken its 14th 747-8 Intercontinental with a total of 19 on order.

“Reaching this milestone delivery is a testament to the capabilities of the airplane and our commitment to continuous innovation,” said Eric Lindblad, 747 Vice President and General Manager, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “The new 747-8 is delivering on its promise to our customers, and we continue to look at ways to make it even more efficient in the future.”

The 747 is the first widebody plane in history to reach the 1,500 milestone.

Lufthansa is the launch customer of the 747-8 Intercontinental and received its first aircraft in April 2012.  The Boeing 747 grand total stands at 1,538 with Lufthansa the customer for 75 over the years.  Variants have included the 100 series, 200 series, 400 series, short bodied SP, various cargo versions and the modified Shuttle and Dreamlifter examples.  www.boeing.com/commercial   www.lufthansa.com
