SWISS strengthens Geneva

Yesterday (1 September) Swiss International Air Lines officially introduced a new fare structure at Geneva, an innovative scheme in keeping with competing airlines' marketing strategies.

It is also expanding its network of non-stop services from the airport to 24 destinations and setting up an operational base.  Both these actions are intended to align the airline’s Geneva-based product even more closely to the needs of customers in Western Switzerland and adjacent French border areas.

The new Geneva ‘Economy Flex’ fare offers European travel from Geneva for as little as CHF89 one-way (£62).  The new fare offers greater flexibility too, since bookings can be changed at no additional fee and one piece of baggage is allowed.  The new ‘Economy Light fare’ starts at CHF39 (£27) one-way.  One piece of carry-on baggage is included.  Bookings cannot be changed.  The system is not dissimilar to that introduced by BA at Gatwick, its second hub too, where there is also significant competition from easyJet. SWISS will be adding six further destinations to its Geneva-based network: Stockholm (served four times weekly), Oslo (thrice weekly), Gatwick (thrice weekly), Gothenburg (twice weekly), Belgrade (twice weekly) and Marrakesh (twice weekly).  The present summer-season services to Malaga, Palma de Mallorca and Porto become all the year-round. www.swiss.com
