Aberdeen return for Air Baltic

Latvia’s flag-carrier, Air Baltic, has announced its return to Aberdeen International Airport with a new route, operating three flights a week to its home country’s capital, Riga, between May and September next year. The airline has not operated from Aberdeen since September 2014.

AirBaltic this autumn takes delivery of the first of 20 Bombardier CS300 Next Generation aircraft which will eventually join its 12 Q400 turboprops as it transitions gradually to an all-Bombardier fleet. The line-up currently also includes five B737-500s and seven B737-300s.

Aberdeen Airport managing director Carol Benzie said: “This is brilliant news from Air Baltic and it will be fantastic to welcome them back. We are working continually to strengthen our route network and I’m delighted to add the vibrant, cosmopolitan city of Riga to our ever-expanding list.”

Air Baltic’s decision follows the news in May that new direct flights have been launched between Aberdeen and Warsaw. The Wizz Air service is the first to connect the city with the Polish capital and will operate twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays.

The new route addition follows the airline’s arrival at the airport last year, when it launched a twice-weekly service to Gdansk.
