B737-800 for Jet2

In a major milestone in its growth and development strategy, Jet2.com has formally taken delivery of the first of 30 new Next Generation B737-800s from Boeing. It is due to enter service in the next few weeks.

The aircraft, which seats 189 passengers, was handed over to the company at a ceremony at Boeing’s Seattle Delivery Centre in the US. The rest of the order is due to be delivered over the next two years.

Jet2.com says the new fleet will support its “ongoing growth”, which has seen it launch its biggest flights programme so far for 2017. The carrier has also recently announced almost 1,000 new pilot, cabin crew and engineering jobs.

Chief executive officer Steve Heapy said: “The arrival of these new aircraft to our successful fleet is a huge milestone in our history and demonstrates our commitment to investing in growing our business and providing more choice, comfort and quality to our passengers.

“With an enhanced cabin interior, these comfortable aircraft mean we are continuing to develop a great product that delivers in line with our family-friendly ethos.”

Jet2.com was launched from Leeds Bradford Airport in 2003. It is now the fourth-largest registered airline in the UK.
