What is said to be the most comprehensive list on the internet of airline hand-baggage restrictions has been produced by Gate8 Luggage.

The company was set up in 2012 by a frustrated business traveller fed up with being charged for falling foul of carry-on rules.

Alistair Callender, formerly an IT program manager at BskyB, said: “I was a heavy business traveller and couldn't find a cabin bag that was functional, stored garments without creasing them and was the right size for the low-cost airlines.” 

Callender says he grew tired of wasting time in airport queues and spending money on excess baggage fees on business trips. He set about designing a solution that met all airline requirements, accommodated crease-free garment storage and stored laptops safely and conveniently.

Gate8’s survey covers 135 international and domestic business airlines and sets out to show a passenger can travel with ultimate speed and flexibility with only one of the company’s cabin-size bags.

There are now four in the range – a standard wheeled and lightweight version of a garment bag and suit carrier, a business garment bag and a wheeled cabin bag. A fifth product, a wheeled “spinner” bag, will debut shortly.
