Dreamliner No 50 for ANA

Boeing and All Nippon Airways (ANA) celebrated the delivery of the airline’s 50th 787 Dreamliner at a ceremony on Thursday at Boeing's Everett Delivery Centre. The event saw ANA become the world's first airline to operate that number of the 787.

President and CEO Osamu Shinobe said the Dreamliner had played a “significant role” in opening new routes into new markets, while also forming the backbone of ANA’s long-haul fleet.

The airline also used the occasion to announce further expansion of its global network, with plans to launch new routes from Tokyo Narita to Phnom Penh next month and to Mexico City next February using Dreamliners.

ANA became launch customer for the 787 after buying 50 in 2004, and was the first to bring the aircraft into service in 2011. The airline operates more than 11% of all 787s around the world and has flown an estimated 125,000 flights with it.

The airline has another 33 Dreamliners on order, including the longest and newest version, the 787-10, plus 20 B777-9s.

ANA showcased its 50th Dreamliner at Farnborough this year, when the aircraft gave a high-performance flying demonstration which was also seen by millions on the internet – and in BTN (11 July).
