Emirates grows in SE Asia

A new route serving Yangon in Myanmar and Hanoi in Vietnam and operated by Boeing 777-300ER has joined the Emirates network, bringing the number of destinations the airline serves in South-East Asia to 12 in seven countries.

The company is one of the first international airlines to fly to Yangon, and says it will open the country to business travel as well as exposing passengers to Myanmar’s religious and ancient sites and other attractions.

Yangon is one of the fastest-growing economies in South-East Asia. It is Myanmar’s largest city and the most important commercial centre, and contributes about one-fifth of the country’s GDP.

Hanoi is Emirates’ second destination in Vietnam and gives passengers the option to traverse Vietnam south to north by flying into Ho Chi Minh City and departing from the new destination.

Badr Abbas, Emirates’ regional senior vice-president, was on board the inaugural flight with a number of senior executives of the airline.

Among other developments, Emirates is upgrading its service between Dubai and Khartoum from 1 September with the deployment of a larger Boeing 777-300ER to replace the current Airbus A340-300.
