SIA goes transatlantic from UK

Cementing its relationship with the north of England, Singapore Airlines is to launch its first transatlantic flights from the UK to the US with a Manchester – Houston service from 30 October.

The company, which earlier this year celebrated 30 years of flying from Manchester, making it the airport’s longest serving long-haul international carrier, is also introducing non-stop flights to Singapore. Each destination will be served five times weekly.

The Manchester – Houston route will be the second operated by SIA to and from the northern airport, in addition to the long-standing route serving Singapore.

The combined routes will represent the first time SIA has operated two separate flights serving two destinations from the UK hub.

The Manchester – Houston service will also be the first time the airline has operated westbound flights departing the UK.

At the same time as the Manchester – Houston flight is launched, SIA flights between Manchester and Singapore will become non-stop once more, with the complete route operating as Singapore – Manchester – Houston.

Until 30 October, the route will continue to operate as the daily Singapore – Munich – Manchester one-stop flight for Manchester passengers.

If this doesn't rattle Senor Cruz then he needs to get on the project, pronto. How many more of these fifth freedoms could there be that avoid LHR? Interesting times.
