SIA in US expansion

Non-stop flights between Singapore and San Francisco and a second daily service to Los Angeles are being launched by Singapore Airlines in an expansion of its US operations.

The San Francisco non-stops will operate on a daily basis from 23 October using the Airbus A350-900. SIA currently serves San Francisco twice daily, with one flight operating via Hong Kong and the other via Seoul Incheon.

With the launch of the non-stops, the Singapore   –  Seoul   –  San Francisco flight will be re-routed to operate as a Singapore – Seoul – Los Angeles service, also from 23 October.

This will give SIA a second daily service to Los Angeles, complementing existing flights that operate Singapore   –  Tokyo Narita   –  Los Angeles.

Flying time for the new San Francisco services will be between 14hr 35min and 17hr 45min depending on direction and time of year, over a journey of around 13,600km.

They will be the longest flights in SIA’s network until 2018, when a new variant of the A350-900 will enter service, enabling even longer flights between Singapore and both Los Angeles and New York. SIA is launch customer for the new variant, the A350-900ULR, with seven on order.

SIA is suspending services to São Paulo, Brazil, from 20 October because of  “the sustained weak performance of the route”.

Let's hope the seating in First Class is better than the recently refurbished B777-300ER, which is only good for small people.
